Care & Maintenance

Our traditional Kadai Bowls are crafted from high-quality cast iron, meaning they will naturally age and rust over time. All of our items are provided with a base coat before they leave us, but there are additional steps you can take to ensure the best quality is ensured throughout your use of these stunning Kadai Bowls.
Here is a simple guide, to instruct you on how to care for your Kadai Bowl.
You would need the following: a wire brush, a cloth, and some cooking oil/vegetable oil.
Required items: wire brush, cloth, vegetable oil

For the first step, identify the affected area that requires attention. As pictured, it will be the area of the Kadai bowl with some layered rust or discolouration, which is different from the natural, iron-effect finish.

Once you have found the area that needs treating, the first step is removing that excess rust so you have a smooth surface. To do this, you will need to use the wire brush and slowly move across the surface, removing the rust from the affected area.

Once this is complete, you should have something similar to the image above. This is a rust-free, smooth surface. Ready for the protective layer of oil to be applied so it can be restored to the natural iron colour.
This brings us to our final step, applying the oil to the surface. Using the cloth, you will need to dip the end into the cooking/vegetable oil just enough so it covers the end of the cloth. Then, if you move the cloth across the area that has just been treated and cover up the damaged, or discoloured area of the Kadai bowl.
Once complete, you should have something that looks like this:

However, for our Kadai bowls, we recommend a light covering of oil after each use, to prevent the material ageing at an increased rate.
Failing to do so would result in an increased rate of rust appearing.
